Space: Not a Void of the Imagination

When Peacock Keller began the sponsorship of Off The Shelf. . . A Celebration of Books four years ago, little did we know how we as a law firm would benefit. We wanted to help the Washington District Libraries to reach a technology goal of establishing a one- card regional network throughout their District which now includes Washington, Greene and Fayette Counties. We are working toward that goal, having raised over $95,000 thus far. But additionally, we are making many new friends and are having so much fun being the originator and the sponsor.

This year we invited people to stretch their imagination with the space theme. And boy were they resourceful! They used books on wide open spaces, outdoor space, closet space and Flat Stanley and Curious George in space. Of course we had books on outer space such as The Mercury 13, Planets, Stars and Galaxies, and Mission Control, This is Apollo.

Think of those book titles and the creativity that it took to decorate a table around their topic, then add a great dinner and the fund- raiser auctions and you have some sense of what our Off The Shelf benefit was like this year. It was held at The Hilton Garden Inn at Southpointe on September 21, and it was awesome!

Our award winners were: First Place Award (Pulitzer Prize) - First Federal Savings and Loan Assn. of Greene County, whose table theme was Star Wars Episode V- The Empire Strikes Back. The Second Place Award (Best Seller) went to the table decorated by the Friends of Citizens Library, whose book was Rocket Boys. Third Place Award (Sleeper) went to the Washington Hospital, whose table was decorated by the Connellsville Library around the book Goodnight Moon. There was also a People’s Choice Award presented to Ken and Tommy Baker’s table whose book was Contact.

Please enjoy the pictures of our evening and also think about participating next year on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at the Hilton Garden Inn when our theme will be Music. Carol Andrews will be glad to speak with you at 724-222-4520 or you can e-mail her at Carol.Andrews@peacockkeller.com.

SPECIAL THANKS

We would like to give a special thank you to First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Greene County for their monetary donation to Off The Shelf . . . A Celebration of Books. We inadvertently omitted them from the evening’s program. They are an annual participant, have won first place awards for their table three out of four years and we appreciate their participation.
